I was, and still am, obsessed with the formal head and shoulders portrait. When I first started taking pictures, I somehow ended up with a Medium Format Rolleiflex camera. I loved composing in the square, and a human torso just fit so nicely into it. When I got my first Canon 5D, I adapted but never got as excited about composing in the 2:3 format. This gallery is somewhat of a record of my continued exploration of shooting (mostly) head and shoulders portraits in an uncropped, horizontal rectangle. The name “Reactions to Rectangles” refers to this section of the website, but could also just be a description of photography or art in general. You know? 🤔
